Rubins Leonard

Rubins is the creator of a very specific expression. He puts his characters in an imaginary, fantasy scenographies of great depths, combining Cosmic and Earthly levels. Building upon experience of Surrealism and Fantasy Art, he is creating a compositions of great power and expressiveness. His works fall into the category of supreme value of Surrealism and Esoteric Arts such as Abdul Mother Klarwein, Robert Venosa and Ernst Fuchs. In his long-lasting career he participated in many exhibitions. (Dejan Đorić)

Rubins first series of artworks, reaches far back in time, living only as a blurred memory. A space of incomprehensible fears, brave ideas followed by idealism, frequently blocked by a society that feeds on totalitarianism. Rubins spent his childhood in a Utopian system of the Slavic communist regime, that after decades of totalitarianism did not survive the spirit of time. Latently isolated from the possibility of a mind-expansion process, which would result in the personal development, he lived each day, as it offered by itself and thus wasting his time. Eventually he discovered his first great liberation, a strong affection for the worlds on the other side, beyond the boundaries of known and safe.

The source of imagination was coming from a New World, which was gradually rising. Living between two different ideologies, he was recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of both regimes. Slavic communist regime was bloody red and the West was a kind of rainbow to him. The numbed comfortably of life, on the western borders, was continuous risk, insecurity and tension. The ideology of a totalitarian regime has permanently marked his character to a large extent. Despite the creative enthusiasm, he has suffered – as a featured individualist in collective, mass hysteria values. He was incomprehensible – as a Utopian, nurturing thoughts on, not yet discovered horizons. He was melancholic and depressed – with the idea of otherness marked on his forehead. In the masochistic pose, bowing down to mighty leaders, whose false creation was adored, while at the same time, they nurtured an obscure general cynicism.

Through pictures in mixed media, he was gradually constructing his courageous quest.  Living in the “Go West” syndrome for twenty-five years, he has been experiencing all the triviality of that period, directly and forcefully. There was a necessity to decide between love and hatred, desire and envy. The ambitions of the Slavic communist regimes eventually began to collapse and fall to fragments. Through the all-prevailing chaos of values and nonsense of everything, that has been done and believed into, the ideologies and their  leaders once again amended to bitter memories. Only ideologically renewed, the masses took refuge at the nearest solution, whose offer was illusory in the prosaic content of new security. Rubins nation found their shelter among them, who they despised in the past, so conceitedly. There wasn’t much left, but Utopian-ism to which, the artist has been entirety faithful, until today.

Artworks show the joy, sadness and hope of a transient man in the world full of potentials. He still creates and digital scenography looks good to many, giving him enough courage to face the quest, therefore, such an expression is of vital importance to him. Nevertheless, he creates merely that, what wants to express by itself, tries to transform him and save him from the burden to be someone else. He is aware that, to be born, live and die is his ultimate quest! The unique quest, happening to all equally. And thank goodness, that it happens! Though felling endless gratitude, considers recurring everydayness as only a rough sketch for something more intense and vast in the oncoming future. Wishing to be at the right place, when the world quietly attains his rebirth! Rubins concludes, that there lies a solution …

It doesn’t really matter how old I am and from where is my origin. I know that I’m still young enough, to wonder if my search is going the right way and old enough to wish the future will fulfill few of my Heart yearnings.
In my dreams I am a sort of “Peaceful World Wide Touring Cyclist”, who: paints, writes, dreams and lives his own story. All the places the journey may take me, no matter if I’ve never been there, or ever will be, help me to remember, what is my quest and where will I be at the end of my days.
My origin name is …“The Star-Borne”…This is who I am. Going to take a deep breath, break free from the comfort zone and start the journey, now!
